East Head Coastal Spit
West Wittering, UK
Site Information
Site Information
East Head is a spit and dune complex that stretches northwards into Chichester Harbour, one of the many drowned river valleys on the south coast of the UK. Over time its morphology appears to have moved from a spit to a series of dunes and beaches, and undergone periods of accretion and erosion, sometimes due to extensive modification of natural longshore drift by groynes around West Wittering beach and beyond. This longshore drift is initiated by a dominant SSW wave field.
